Our Youth Program is Out Boulder County's social and educational space for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their allies ages 11-18. We run 4 weekly support groups for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Questioning youth ages 11-18. Our groups are a great place for LGBTQ youth to come to feel supported, access resources, meet other LGBTQ youth, and explore their identities in a safe and welcoming environment! We have great conversations, bring in knowledgeable and affirming presenters from other community organizations who deal with a variety of topics including healthy relationships, substance use prevention, youth homeless services, sex ed, and social justice. We also have a lot of fun with various activities, game nights, movie nights and field trips!
In addition to our weekly groups, we also offer special community events, including the annual LGBTQQ and Allies Youth Dance in May and Night of Noise Youth Summit in April. These events are coordinated and planned by paid Youth Interns. We also manage Youth and Family Areas at Longmont Pride (June) and Boulder Pride (September).
We will also be holding our very first Colorado Rainbow Scouts Outdoor Retreat this summer! This outdoor retreat, for 13-17 year old lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and allied teens, will be held for 3 nights in July 2019 at Eleven Mile State Park, Colorado. For our first year, we will take 12 youth at no cost to them. This will be the first time that the Colorado Rainbow Scouts Outdoor Summer Retreat for LGBTQ+ Youth will be held, and is a first of its kind for Out Boulder County programming and Boulder County at large. For many youth, the Colorado Rainbow Scouts Outdoor Summer Retreat will be their first experience with nature and the outdoors. For LGBTQ+ youth, the retreat will offer a safe space- a respite from harassment and abuse- where they can be themselves and explore their own unique identity while learning to connect with others and the natural environment surrounding them. The purpose of the Colorado Rainbow Scouts Outdoor Summer Retreat for LGBTQ+ Youth is to provide a place away from the everyday pressures of living where youth can take time to reflect on who they are as individuals and as a LGBTQ+ youth community.
