Title: LGBTQ Youth of Color Group Facilitator

Hours: 3-5 hours per week including some hours on nights and weekends

Compensation: $15 per hour

Type: Contract

Office Locations: Boulder County

Reports To: Youth Program Coordinator

Mission

Our mission is to educate, advocate and provide services, programs and support for Boulder County's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) communities.

Description of the Work

The role of the Youth Group Facilitator is to help guide and support Out Boulder County’s Youth Program. The Youth Group Facilitator will help facilitate the LGBTQ youth of color group and other youth groups as needed. Typically, the Youth Group Facilitator will work alongside the Youth Program Coordinator, however there may be times when the Youth Group Facilitator will be asked to lead a group when the Youth Program Coordinator is not available.

This position requires a passion and aptitude for youth services, a great deal of patience, attention to detail, and the ability to respond to many different tasks and situations simultaneously.

The position is part of a very small and dedicated team of staff and volunteers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Youth Program Support and Supervision (70%)

  • Support Youth Program Coordinator in facilitating existing youth programs in Boulder County 11 to 18 year olds

  • Assist in facilitation of youth groups and youth events/field trips

  • Abide to Out Boulder County’s Youth Policies

  • Ensure services are offered in an inclusive, respectful and professional manner

  • Provide support, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention as needed

  • Provide translation services between youth, families, and Youth Program Coordinator during group or outreach efforts.

Outreach (specifically communities of color in Boulder County) (20%)

  • Assist in outreach to schools and community partners/groups regarding youth groups & events

  • Outreach to communities in Boulder County who may not know about our youth programming and services (specifically communities of color and culturally specific organizations/groups).

  • Distribute youth group flyers in relevant locations and send via email to new and existing community partners/groups.

Youth Events (10%)

  • Support  youth-centered events, including the potential of working on evenings and the occasional weekend(s)

  • Support youth committees in planning and production of youth events

The LGBTQ Youth of Color Group Facilitator will be:

  • Committed and enthusiastic about Out Boulder County’s mission and programs with knowledge of LGBTQ communities and issues, specifically QTPOC issues and challenges

  • Straightforward and self-assured; one who shares information readily; listens as well as gives advice and respects the abilities of others; diplomatic and empathic

  • A team player; able to work cohesively with others and perform related tasks effectively

  • Healthy in relational skills. One who listens well, speaks respectfully and assertively, honors diverse perspectives and is honest

  • Motivated and willing to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends

  • Emotionally mature with a sense of humor to maintain balance

  • Dedicated to effective self-care and a strong believer in sustainable programming

  • REQUIRED- Bilingual & Bicultural in English/Spanish

Qualifications: Solid oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff and others outside of the organization. Be self-directed with the ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and clarity. Knowledge of interlocking systems of oppression and how they impact LGBTQ people and communities. Ability to work weekend and evening hours.  Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record. Must pass background check. Must be bilingual in English/Spanish.
