2022 QTPOC Youth Retreat Recap

Out Boulder County’s youth program hosted our 3rd annual QTPOC (Queer and Trans People of Color) Youth Leadership Retreat earlier this month. Our inaugural team of QTPOC interns that attended last year's retreat had the opportunity to design this year's retreat! Our youth cohort was able to participate in personal development workshops, build community, and learn how to walk runway.

We had a 3-day retreat that took place at our Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains, and we will continue to evolve and change with every youth internship cohort!

We had several guests facilitating workshops, such as Bree Hill from, Sacred Voices Denver, LeeLee “Twirling Tech Goddess” James, Studio Arts Boulder, representatives from several higher education institutions around the state, Mario Flores for Resume-building, and other members throughout the three-day retreat. Their expansive knowledge helped us with a successful retreat!

We had some phenomenal food catered by local BIPOC businesses around Boulder County, such as Nopalitos (Boulder), Curry and Keob (Boulder), and Casian Seafood (Lafayette). The food was a hit with everybody and comes highly recommended from OBC!

We are already looking ahead for next year’s retreat and cannot wait to see what new developments will grow out of it!

2021 QTPOC Youth Leadership Retreat Recap

Out Boulder County’s youth program hosted our 2nd annual QTPOC (Queer and/or Trans People of Color) Youth Leadership Retreat earlier this month, where our youth cohort were able to attend personal development workshops, build community, and envision long-term community-based projects, including a multicultural cooking class and an inclusive sex-ed summit! It was a 3-day retreat that took place at the First United Methodist Church, and will continue to evolve and grow as we continue this program moving forward!

We had several guests facilitating workshops, such as Nicole Garcia, LeeLee “Twirling Tech Goddess” James, representatives from several higher education institutions around the state, and other members throughout the three-day retreat. Without them and their valuable knowledge, our retreat would not have been as successful.

We had some phenomenal food catered by local BIPOC businesses around Boulder County, such as Summit Tacos (Longmont), Tibet Kitchen (Boulder), and Casian Seafood (Lafayette). Their delicious foods were a hit with our youth, and we encourage everybody to try them.

We are already looking ahead for next year’s retreat and cannot wait to see what new developments will grow out of it!
