OUT BOULDER COUNTY HOSTS TRANSGENDER AWARENESS WEEK

Boulder, CO - In November 2019, Out Boulder County’s Transgender Steering and Events Committee announced that its annual Transgender Awareness Week would shift from Transgender Day of Remembrance and move to the week preceeding Transgender Day of Celebration to highlight the strength, resiliency, and vibrancy of the transgender community.

The Transgender Steering and Events Committee invites you to join us in a week’s worth of programming focused on uplifting our voices and stories, culminating in our annual celebration of life: Transgender Day of Celebration on March 31.

Transgender Day of Celebration is an internationally recognized day of celebration of transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive individuals. Starting in 2009, its focus is on celebrating the lives of transgender people and the contributions we make to our communities.

“Publicly, so much of our narrative is focused around our deaths during Transgender Day of Remembrance, and while it is important for our community to come together to mourn the lives we have lost to anti-trans violence through-out the year, it is of equal importance to ensure we also celebrate the vitality, resiliency, and courage within our community. We are your parents, your siblings. We are your children. In our communities, we are both your students and educators, your doctors and patients. We are business owners and employees, artists and entrepreneurs. We are your co-workers, neighbors, and friends. We bring light and vitality and add to the rich tapestry of our collective community.” Ravyn Wayne, Chair - Transgender Steering & Events Committee

Out Boulder County’s Transgender Steering & Events provides leadership and input on the organization’s programming and works to balance inward community building with public education opportunities for folks to meet and learn about their transgender community members and their experiences.

Trans Awareness Week will be March 25-31, 2020 and include a variety of events including Trans Stories: Policy Impacts on our Lives, a panel discussion with local trans community members, a film screening of “Man Made”, a documentary about trans masculine body builders, a trans-only potluck brunch, and a celebratory gathering for everyone at the new Out Boulder County Pridehouse on March 31.
